Although Zendaya did not perform with her partner Tom Holland in his Romeo and Juliet play at London’s Duke of York Theatre, she still managed to command attention from the crowd.
Zendaya supported Tom Holland by showing up to the opening night and sporting a look that perfectly complemented the theme of love. She wore a Spring 2023 Vivienne Westwood dress, with delicate details that reflected the grace of a Shakespearean heroine, and presumably styled by her longtime collaborator Law Roach.
Choosing Vivienne Westwood for her night in the UK was a fitting tribute to London’s fashion legacy. The last time Zendaya publicly wore Westwood was in April, when she selected a vintage set from the ’90s Café Society collection for the Challengers London photocall. Over the years, Zendaya and stylist Law Roach have been delving into the idea of “method dressing,” in which the actress dresses like the characters she plays in films. They chose attire for the Dune: Part Two and Challengers press tours that accurately represented Zendaya’s characters. Zendaya wore futuristic Givenchy and Mugler items from the past, including a striking cyborg outfit, for her role as the warrior princess Chani in the movie Dune. She also dressed in tennis-themed outfits from Louis Vuitton, Loewe, and Thom Browne, all in bright greens and classic whites, to reflect her role, tennis star Tashi Duncan, from Challengers. Zendaya’s method dressing is not extended to her personal wardrobe. Her go-to looks in between press appearances and her co-chair position at the 2024 Met Gala included trench coats, jeans, and cozy sweatpants.
In addition to paying respect to the British designer, Vivienne Westwood, Zendaya showcased how her personal and professional pursuits have been increasingly integrated into her style. Her appearance at Holland’s opening night perfectly balanced support with style-infused storytelling.
