Zari Qanei is the First Iranian Finalist in the Redress Design Award


In an exciting moment for the region, Iranian designer Zari Qanei has made history as the first finalist in the Redress Design Award 2024.

The award is the world’s leading sustainable fashion design competition, organized by Hong Kong-based NGO Redress since 2011. It educates and empowers emerging designers on circular design techniques to combat the negative environmental impacts of fashion. Attracting applicants from over 50 countries, the award partners with more than 170 academic institutions globally, helping designers connect with leading fashion businesses to promote a circular fashion industry.

Zari’s collection, “The Mystery of Wilderness,” repurposes textile waste and reflects on nature’s dominance over humanity. Featuring a traditional Iranian scarf with Khos embroidery, velvet tablecloths, and old lace curtains, her designs prioritize longevity with a practical style for everyday wear.

Being a finalist at the Redress Design Award 2024 is an incredible honor, and it truly feels surreal to be the first Iranian designer to reach this stage. This recognition not only validates my hard work and passion for sustainable fashion but also highlights the rich potential of Iranian designers on a global stage. I hope my journey inspires others in my country and beyond to pursue their creative dreams.
