Trends tend to come and go, but certain styles endure. The slouchy knitwear and statement skirt pairings that emerged on the autumn/winter 2023 runways made a stealth return for spring/summer 2024, presenting an array of new combinations to try next year.
Several iterations appeared at 16Arlington’s show, including fuzzy oversized knits worn with midi-skirts adorned with feathers and colourful paillettes. Supermodel and former British Vogue cover star, Precious Lee, took to the runway in a dove-grey jumper and a crunchy transparent skirt, with the brand’s signature Kikka bag clutched to her chest. These looks evoked a high-low mood that was equal parts office appropriate (albeit, quite extravagant) and party-ready, offering a new way to wear your favourite jumper this autumn.

The sculptural silver earrings and porcelain white loafers further added to the high-low appeal. “We don’t want anyone to feel too ‘done,’” the label’s co-founder, Holly Wright, told Vogue.
Multiple designers have expressed similar sentiments about their collections. Joseph Altuzarra said before his spring/summer 2024 showcase: “It’s a departure […] I thought of the last couple of years as being an exploration of a kind of escapist world, one that crescendoed last season with all these swirling colours, and I liked the idea of going back to something that felt a little more vulnerable, a little rawer, and a little closer to life.” The various gauzy embroidered skirts and sweaters epitomised his focus on pared-back beauty.
