Margot Robbie Officially Ends Barbiecore in Brown Schiaparelli Couture

With a long round of Barbie promotions marked with a stunning wardrobe, it’s hard to remember a time this year when Margot Robbie was not dressed in something pink and ultra-feminine. This is why it was more than refreshing to see the actor walk the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of her production Saltburn this week, in an outfit that has no place in Barbieland.

Ditching the pastel skirt suits, mini dresses, and sparkling princess gowns, Robbie revived her grittier, pre-Barbie filmography in dramatic Schiaparelli couture. The brown-hued look was picked from the fashion house’s Fall 2023 haute couture collection and featured a number of statement elements. Starting with the corseted top made of sheer panels, the bodice was adorned with a navel-piercing detail, while at the bottom, the velvet wide-legged trousers came with an unbuttoned waistband. Robbie’s stylist Andrew Mukamal decided to complete the look with minimal accessories including a golden beaded choker—a contrast from how the creation was worn on the runway with oversized Schiaparelli jewelry.

This week’s Saltburn premiere was Robbie’s first since the end of the Sag-Aftra strike, and potentially kickstarts a series of promotions for the thriller starring Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, and Rosamund Pike. Whether Robbie will walk the red carpet as an actor or producer next, one can expect the days of Barbiecore to be behind her as she takes her wardrobe from nostalgic to contemporary dressing.
