We’ve asked experts from the fashion and beauty industries to weigh in with the one change they’d recommend everyone makes, to provide you with a list of simple switch-ups that really make a difference.
Inject newness into your wardrobe with rental fashion
Ultimately, the most sustainable thing we can all do is to buy and produce less. “Over 100 billion garments are produced annually, with fashion perceived as disposable,” notes Eco-Age’s sustainability professional, Georgia-Rae Taylor. “Citizens of the Global North not only purchase 400 per cent more clothing today than 20 years ago, but they only keep clothes for half as long. Prioritising quality over quantity is key for being responsible.”
When it comes to fleeting trends or event shopping – whether a fun party outfit for the festive season or a wedding-guest dress – try renting instead of buying.
“The great thing about rental is that you have access to the largest shared wardrobe with incredible on-trend and rare pieces,” says Eshita Kabra-Davies, the founder of rental app By-Rotation. “Not only can you rent from our community before buying something off the rack, but you can also make significant income from renting out your wardrobe.”
