What to look for in the best concealer brushes

Remember when certain beauty products would include a brush? Yeah, those days are gone. And so, the hunt for the perfect concealer brush begins. “Usually for concealer, a synthetic bristle brush is best for blending and applying cream products,” says makeup artist Sabrina Rinaldi. “Something that is the size of the tip of your finger is a general guide for [brush] size.”

Before we get into the nitty gritty of concealer brushes, to ensure your concealer stays in place, Rinaldi suggests setting it with a loose powder. The type of concealer brush depends on the look you’re going for.

For a night out, using “a soft fluffy brush lightly [will] set concealer,” says Rinaldi. However, if you’re headed into your 9-5, “a flat stiff synthetic brush helps [concealer] set longer as it presses the powder into the skin.”

That said, for some beauty pros, using their fingers to apply concealer is the way to go. “My preferred method is to use my fingers. I find the heat from the fingers helps blend the product into the skin,” explains Rinaldi. “Using your fourth finger is perfect as it will apply the least amount of pressure.”
