Can you imagine being a child again and riding down the street in your neighborhood being captivated by the historic homes that line both sides of the street? The craftsmanship and architectural brilliance of it all fascinates your little young mind, cementing itself and leaving a lingering respect for historic charm that stays with you throughout your journey growing up.

This was true for Tiffany Cobb, a young girl who grew up in Detroit, who eventually evolved into an entrepreneurial powerhouse. By being thoroughly inspired by the grandeur of her childhood neighborhood, Tiffany carried this appreciation for detail and beauty into her studies at Morris Brown College, the Art Institute of Atlanta and eventually to owning her own interior design firm, Tiffany René Interior Design, LLC

“During some of my toughest days in the classroom, I leaned on design to create a peaceful space,” Tiffany recalls. “That’s when I realized the transformative power of design and decided to pursue it full-time.”

Although bustling with passion and a determined spirit, Tiffany’s transition from student to entrepreneur was no easy feat. She faced countless challenges, including just how to marry her deep desire to serve those who may not be exposed to the impact of how transformative a good designer can be with her drive to bring beauty and purpose to everyday spaces.

“I wasn’t fully prepared for the business side of design,” Tiffany admits. “While I had the passion and confidence, I lacked the knowledge. It was challenging, especially when my professors weren’t forthcoming with answers [about running a business]. But I learned by doing and stayed determined to educate my community about the value of hiring a designer.”

Tiffany’s perseverance paid off. Over time, she not only built her business but also developed a mission to create spaces that inspire well-being and creativity. As someone who grew up not seeing many people in her circle hire designers, education to her clients became vital in establishing her place within the field.

“Breaking into an industry where I didn’t see many people who looked like me required a lot of resilience,” she shares. “But I learned to trust my unique perspective and stay true to my style.”

For Tiffany, the struggle to understand just where she fit in, while simultaneously establishing her own original technique and aesthetic, presented one of her biggest hurdles…overcoming self-doubt. By staying true to herself and by consistently delivering high-quality work to her clients, Tiffany has been able to not just start her business, but thrive in it. This commitment to authenticity led to her most cherished accomplishment, participating in a Designers Showhouse in the very neighborhood where her design journey began.

“It was a full-circle moment,” Tiffany reflects. “Bringing my love for design back to my roots and making an impact in my community was incredibly meaningful.”

Tiffany takes immense pride in her Detroit roots, therefore working on a project for designing a space where her passion first sparked was the opportunity of a lifetime. In Tiffany’s eyes, being able to contribute to her community in this way has served as the biggest reward for not only her career, but her own personal voyage towards success.

While Tiffany has truly hit her stride, maintaining balance is essential to her creative process. She prioritizes yoga, journaling, and therapy to stay grounded and focused, recently adding her sprinting journey with the Atlanta Track Club. Pursuing this personal goal has activated a new level of discipline that she believes will seamlessly transfer into her design practice, further enhancing her creative vision for clients. By prioritizing activities that nourish her mind and body, Tiffany can truly dial into her inspirations from travel and fashion while drawing on cherished childhood memories of her grandmothers, who instilled in her an appreciation for elegance and detail.

“My grandmothers were my first design influences,” Tiffany explains. “One always had Better Homes and Gardens magazines in her home, which I loved exploring as a child, and the other has an impeccable eye for luxury goods. Their unique styles and values have undoubtedly shaped my love for design.”

Looking ahead, Tiffany has ambitious goals that include growing her design firm and expanding her Love Thy Teacher initiative, a program aimed at supporting educators. She’s also committed to mentoring the next generation of designers, advocating for greater diversity in the industry, and fostering Detroit’s creative community as co-founder of Rivet Design Collective, a membership organization empowering local creatives through collaboration and education.

“I want to create spaces that inspire and make a meaningful impact. I hope to see more designers of color leading the way in this field,”  Tiffany reveals.

This desire for mentorship in the next generation of designers only aids in Tiffany’s commitment to purpose-driven work. At her core, Tiffany believes that we are all accountable for the gifts we’ve been given, a responsibility she doesn’t take lightly. Tiffany strives to continue lifting up others and being an example of proven success. With her mantra, “Live Fancy,” she encourages others to approach life with intention and creativity, redefining what it means to live beautifully.

“Trust your voice and vision,” she advises those inspired to follow in her footsteps. “Your unique perspective is exactly what the industry needs. Keep learning, stay passionate, and never underestimate the power of your creativity.”

For Tiffany, design is not just about aesthetics. It’s about creating spaces that are functional, impactful, and meaningful—a philosophy she has carried from her historic Detroit roots to every space she touches.

Over the last few decades, the American Dream has been somewhat of an anomaly, with many variations of what it means depending on who you ask and the goal post ever-changing. For some, it means becoming a college-educated member of society on a path towards home-ownership, white picket fence and all. For others, it means achieving a life-long dream; one that represents resilience while overcoming a large feat. For Maïré Bavarday-Rosa, it’s an evergreen concept that continues to develop the more she strives towards her own version of success. From Guadeloupe, France to Atlanta, Georgia, Maïré’s journey proves that our vision for the future can sometimes mean building a path for others to follow.

Maïré’s journey starts from humble beginnings in her home country of Guadeloupe, a small French territory in the southern Caribbean Sea. Maïré believes her upbringing greatly influenced her path forward along with her perception of success.

“My background is very important because often people overlook us because we are French– we are Black French. People automatically think that life is easier for us because we’re French, but it’s not,” emphasizes Maïré.

While being raised in Guadeloupe offered no favors for Maïré, it only strengthened her deep desire to be in service of others. Upon leaving her home country at the tender age of 17, Maïré pursued a career in social work after studying Criminology in Canada. While there, she experienced her first taste of working for the greater good by helping young people transition away from street life and connecting them with tools and resources to land jobs and start small businesses.

“Helping these young people start their own business was the most exciting for them. Usually, if you do well doing illegal things in the street life, you’re likely to do well as an entrepreneur because it’s the same type of mindset and struggle,” reveals Maïré. “It’s very linked.”

Some could say that Maïré’s work with leading others to the path of entrepreneurship was an omen to her own destiny, however she had other plans for her future.

“I always knew I didn’t want to be an entrepreneur. Growing up, I watched my parents struggle to run their own business,” admits Maïré. “My parents also didn’t want me to be an entrepreneur, that’s why they sent me to Canada.”

But as life works, fate had other plans. Upon falling in love with the city of Atlanta during a layover visit, Maïré was so infected with the desire to be around Black excellence that she made her own move to the city in 2011 and never looked back. She realized that out of all the places she had planted roots, Atlanta was one of the only places she felt comfortable enough to spread her wings and fly. She instantly felt at home, which would set the stage for her own journey to come.

“I don’t want to live somewhere where it’s not exceptional to do great things and be Black,” says Maïré.

For Maïré, her journey to entrepreneurship happened completely by chance, perhaps the best foundation for an extraordinary success story. After ordering a pair of shoes she didn’t like, Maïré decided to sell them through Facebook. To her surprise, she received an outpouring of interest from friends in Guadeloupe and France, who couldn’t find similar styles locally, leading to an intense demand for these types of products. This prompted Maïré to start a Facebook page, listing products, handling payments, and learning the ropes of drop-shipping—all from her bedroom

As demand grew, Maïré launched a more formal parcel forwarding business, which allowed her clients to purchase goods from the United States and have them shipped to countries that lacked such fulfillment options.

“I quit my job and I was like, this is it, this has to work, states Maïré. “Mind you, I didn’t have any background in logistics and my English was still not all the way there but the business was growing. So much so, that I upgraded from my bedroom to the living room, then to the garage.”

Maïré was now a full-time entrepreneur with a growing client base. Maïré eventually was forced to move to a larger commercial space, which only intensified her journey. Although business was continuously growing, the isolation combined with Maïré’s lack of guidance caused her to make many missteps and lose significant amounts of money. Without a community or mentors to lean on, every decision felt like navigating in the dark.

“Back then, there weren’t many resources for someone like me—a Black, immigrant woman in business,” she explains. “It was only recently that I realized how essential it is to have a mentor or join an accelerator program. Guidance can make or break your business.”

Despite the many setbacks, Maïré stayed the course and continued to believe in herself, her mission and her vision for the future. The business became more than just a meal ticket for herself, but it blossomed into an opportunity for others to forge a path towards an expansive future.

In 2020, after years of building her network and capital, Maïré launched ECOMSPACES, a business incubator and fulfillment center designed to support other aspiring entrepreneurs. What started as sharing her space with entrepreneurs who couldn’t afford their own grew into a full-fledged business that now supports over 75 members with logistics, content creation, and mentorship.

Looking towards the future, Maïré’s ambitions are global. With her sights set on Africa, she aims to establish a supply chain hub in Ethiopia that will enable products to be manufactured and shipped directly to global markets. By building these connections, she hopes to disrupt the direct-to-consumer supply chain and empower African economies, a vision that’s fueled by her observations of untapped potential in emerging markets.

“Africa is filled with resources and talent,” Maïré explains. “I want to ensure that people in our communities don’t wait for others to step in and shape our economies. We can build and control our supply chains, with our own standards and pricing.”

For Maïré, balance doesn’t mean separating work from life—it’s about weaving them together. Her passion remains rooted in community support and helping others build their dreams. One of Maïré’s most rewarding moments came last year, when large logistics companies began adopting her efficiency-boosting processes. She also placed second in her first pitch competition, thanks to the Black Ambition program founded by Pharrell Williams, which helped her secure her first formal mentorship.

Maïré’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, the importance of community, and the necessity of building each other up as we climb. Maïré exemplifies what it means to persevere and build a destined path for others to follow.

For those starting out, she offers a simple piece of advice: “Ask, negotiate, and don’t be afraid of a ‘no.’ Each step brings you closer to your goal.” Maïré’s path is both a celebration of the American dream and a roadmap for those seeking to create impactful, community-centered businesses.

Imagine…the moment in life when you realize your true purpose in life. What if that purpose involved a fight for survival? For Anisa Palmer, a driven Afro-Latina woman on her journey to her purpose; starting with the physical fight for survival as a combat veteran and leading to a path of breast cancer advocacy, a cause deeply personal to her.

“I was just five years old when my mother was diagnosed with stage-four invasive breast cancer,” Anisa recalls, her voice a mixture of fondness and gravity. “The doctors gave her six months to live. Her cancer had metastasized to her lungs. Despite the odds, she lived longer, but eventually, she passed when I was still very young.”

Despite the grim prognosis, her mother fought fiercely for six more years before losing the battle, leaving her daughter with more than just memories.

“It wasn’t until my second tour in Iraq, when I saw a mirage of my mother, that I knew I was being called to serve in a new way,” reveals Anisa.

That vision became the spark for I Will Survive, Inc. — a beacon of hope for women and families grappling with breast cancer. The organization offers financial assistance, education, resources and emotional support, all while working to build healthier communities. What began as a childhood tragedy would eventually turn into an inspiring story of resilience and advocacy, thus continuously empowering thousands of individuals affected by breast cancer.

Transitioning from the military to a life of service in the nonprofit world wasn’t easy. Through her military career, Anisa learned skills that translate into crisis management, leadership, and innovation, however the emotional weight of how she serves at I Will Survive, Inc. is a different type of battle. Despite the hardships Anisa has encountered along the way,  is grateful for all of her experience.

“[The military] made me the leader I am today. I know how to stay calm in emergencies, like when a client is on the verge of eviction due to medical bills. That military discipline kicks right in,” says Anisa.

Anisa’s ability to empathize with diverse communities has allowed I Will Survive, Inc. to make such a significant impact, especially when encountering difficult moments that require a sensitivity Anisa knows all too well.

Anisa recalls a heartbreaking experience with a young boy whose mother was in the midst of a harrowing battle with breast cancer. “He asked me, ‘Is my mom going to die?’ I didn’t know how to answer, but I told him, ‘Whatever you do to help your mom will help her fight this.’ That boy is now thriving alongside his mother, and moments like that remind me why we do this work.”

Seeing survivors rebuild their lives, going from feeling hopeless to thriving, is perhaps the most rewarding part of Anisa’s journey. Anisa has watched survivors become authors, start businesses and even purchase their first homes, standing by their side each step of the way.

“We teach our survivors to say, ‘I will survive,’ and truly believe it…it’s transformative. Healing starts with mental health,” reveals Anisa.

That mantra even applies to Anisa herself. Working in such an emotionally charged field can truly take a toll, therefore self-care has become a necessity for Anisa and those who work with her as she embeds the ethos of wellness into her team, extending to the organization’s broader mission of not just surviving cancer, but thriving after it.

“We can’t pour into our communities if we’re not taking care of ourselves,” Anisa candidly explains. “Our team starts every meeting with a mental health check-in. We’ve created a culture where it’s okay to take time off, go for walks, or just sit outside and unplug.”

While wellness and self-care are engrained in the organizational culture and methodology of the organization, a cornerstone of I Will Survive, Inc’s impactful approach is mentorship. By pairing breast cancer survivors with mentors who have been through similar experiences, whether being newly diagnosed or long-term survivors, provides a network of support and practical advice. There are a host of unconventional questions that survivors may have that can only be answered by someone undergoing a similar experience.

“One survivor shared how she wished someone had warned her about the long-term effects of chemotherapy, like permanent nail loss or bone density issues. Our mentors provide that kind of insight,” says Anisa.

With almost 14 years of service behind them, I Will Survive, Inc. is planning big for the future. Before the pandemic, they were poised to expand globally, with plans to open health centers in Africa, South America, and the Caribbean, where women have some of the highest mortality rates for breast cancer. Despite the setback from the pandemic, global expansion remains on the horizon. By staying committed to the idea of opening new health centers, the organization ensures that women worldwide have the resources they need to fight this disease.

I Will Survive is built on the values that Anisa’s mother instilled in her: to be a good person, no matter what. This simple yet profound mantra guides Anisa’s every decision and, in turn, creates a ripple effect of good in the world.

With a mission born out of loss, and fueled by resilience, I Will Survive, Inc. continues to empower breast cancer survivors and their families to not only survive, thrive, and honor the memory of women fighting everywhere.

“Go to our website and fill out an application if you find yourself, or someone you know, needing support. Whether it’s help with housing, mentoring, or fitness coaching to reduce the risk of recurrence, we are here for you,” promises Anisa.

Anisa’s journey of purpose to I Will Survive, Inc. is a testament to the power of resilience, community, and unwavering service. As this organization continues to grow, it is clear that they are changing lives, one survivor at a time.

In the world of visual arts, where systemic barriers often stifle creativity, one woman has made it her mission to not only break those barriers but also to uplift and empower her community. Tiffany LaTrice’s resilience, innovation and unwavering commitment has forged her a lane in the art space where vision meets opportunity for those who look like her. Her reflective journey has not only allowed for her to break down those barriers, but stand on a mission to create space for Black women to nurture themselves spiritually and physically through art.

For Tiffany, the work she does is not just professional — it’s deeply personal. Her experience as a painter has given her a profound empathy for other visual artists navigating through their own lived experience. She understands the urgency to create despite the widespread obstacles that often hinder this creative drive.

“I’m the problem I’m trying to solve,” Tiffany reflects, acknowledging that the struggles she faces as a Black female artist are the same ones she’s striving to overcome for others.

This drive for change is what has inspired her to create TILA Studios, a no commission gallery space and creative agency that exhibits the works of Black women. This Atlanta-based visual arts collective not only displays original works for purchase from its featured artists, but allows for gallery goers to attend classes taught by those artists; offering an exclusively rare up close and personal experience for art enthusiasts.

Tiffany’s passion for supporting Black women artists, like herself, didn’t just appear overnight. It is a dream realized, dating all the way back to her childhood. As a seventh-grader in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Tiffany’s experience in an entrepreneurship course led by Girls Inc., gave her the opportunity to craft her own business plan. It was then that she envisioned a creative space for Black student artists to thrive and flourish.

“I’ve always been an artist since I was a kid, and so I wrote this business plan about this art space for black people,” explains Tiffany. “I actually won the pitch competition and asked myself, ‘why not just take that leap of faith and believe in myself in the same way?’”

Tiffany’s drive at such a young age was not only a tell-tale sign of her future success, but an early indicator for the innovative spirit she would carry into adulthood, however it didn’t come without a heavy dose of doubters, most of whom hit close to home.

“I had very rigid parents who never thought art could be a successful career,” reflects Tiffany. “I had to learn how to use this gift as a way to create a creative life that was non traditional, despite what my parents thought.”

Despite her parents’ rigid expectations—her mother a principal, her father an athlete—Tiffany never abandoned her love for art. Even through her stints with corporate America, she continued to nurture it as a way of healing which eventually became the foundation for her future endeavors, including TILA Studios.

Perhaps the most impactful part of Tiffany’s story is her own leap of faith journey. Before launching her agency, Tiffany took a two-year sabbatical to reconnect with herself, stripping away the external markers of success, including her job, her Manhattan, New York apartment and even her shiny lawyer boyfriend. Through this period of introspection, Tiffany spent her days painting, meditating, and journaling allowing her to rediscover who she was at her core. With our worlds so full of responsibility of day to day life, it became easy to forget our hearts deepest desires. ‘Who is Tiffany at the bottom of the bottom with no goal or direction?’ she would often ask herself. The answer was simple: a storyteller through art.

“I wanted to unravel myself,” explains Tiffany. “When you’re living your life for other people than yourself, it’s an unlearning that you have to go through. I eventually learned that my sabbatical wasn’t just about my personal growth. It prepared me to help other women find their voices through art.”

Tiffany’s life-long dreams and newfound vision for other Black women allowed her to utilize her corporate experience to build a business that reflected her values while supporting her community and catapulting the career of other Black female artists.

While Tiffany’s agency started as a communal art collective, a space where Black women could come together, share skills, and exhibit their work, over time it has grown into something beyond Tiffany and even the studio itself. TILA Studios has catapulted the careers of many Black female artists through their curated exhibitions which garner the attention of museums and have fostered partnerships with major brands such as Sweetgreen, BET, Dove, and Visa.

“The quality of our work speaks for itself. We make sure to document our artists’ journeys and ensure their stories are told and their work is recognized,” says Tiffany.

Although Tiffany’s honorable work ethic has created a track record of success, she still recognizes that there is still much to do to ensure Black art recognition. Tiffany still has to fight seemingly uphill battles, one of which is the lack of funding for art itself, despite the rich culture the city of Atlanta provides.

For Tiffany, it’s not just about balance; it’s about harmony and embracing the ebbs and flows of life. As a Black woman leading a Black-owned agency, Tiffany understands that she is not just creating space and opportunity for art—she’s building a legacy. While she’s hesitant to set rigid goals for herself and agency, her primary focus remains doing work that feels aligned with her values and spirit.

“I think success is when you’re truly standing in your authentic self,” reveals Tiffany. “That’s what I try to attract and that’s the work I try to do. I’ve learned to be okay with the unknown. As long as I’m moving forward, that is the ultimate goal.”

Greek philosopher Socrates once said, “know thyself.” These two seemingly straightforward words may sound simple, but can truly pack a punch once we start to unpack them. How much of ourselves do we truly know? If it isn’t much, how willing are we to continue to find out? Living in a world where expectations and societal norms often dictate our paths, we can sometimes lose sight of who we are in our authentic selves. Life can start to get in the way. For Primary School Teacher and Ontological Executive Coach, Valentina Belén Soto Vargas, the mission is clear: encourage and inspire women to become the protagonist of her own story.

“I invite all women to question themselves, reflect on your history and see yourself within the broader context of your life,” says Valentina.

Valentina believes that each of us are individuals that have grown within specific cultures and family structures that have shaped our ways of being, thinking and acting. The more we question ourselves, the more we learn who we truly are at the core rather than what society has influenced us to be and who the people in our lives expect us to be.

For Valentina, her journey towards self-discovery and empowerment began early in life with the support and encouragement from her teachers. As a shy child stacked with insecurities, Valentina found refuge in her teachers, who not only established confidence in her as a student, but showed her firsthand the importance of building connections in order to support children. Thus, started her long, steadfast journey of pouring into others.

“From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher,” reveals Valentina. “I remember visiting my Aunt Rebeca, who was a teacher, and she would let me help her grade tests and collect teaching materials to play teacher at home. I knew from then on that I would follow in her footsteps.”

Valentina’s passion only continued to grow as she pursued her teaching degree and eventually became a teacher in her home country of Chile where political unrest within its former dictatorship put a spotlight on the importance of basic human rights, such as education. With 2024 marking the 51st anniversary of Chile’s military coup, Valentina finds that education is a political act in which teachers are tasked with the development of our leaders of the future. This notion of responsibility is perhaps the driving force behind Valentina’s desire to teach and motivate women how to find their voice and actively step into the woman they aspire to be.

“Despite living in a patriarchal society, where women continue to fight for their rightful place, it’s essential to listen to yourself with empathy and honor your feelings.” instructs Valentina. “This work is a collective act. We depend on each other to thrive, and supporting one another is crucial in this journey of self-recognition and empowerment.”

As an Ontological Executive Coach, Valentina understands that self-love and self-esteem start from within and at an early age. Through her role in coaching, Valentina also gives other instructors tools to eliminate the limiting beliefs that all of us tend to have deep inside.

With all of Valentina’s deep-rooted discovery work, she also enforces a necessary equilibrium between activity and rest, which has further fostered her connection with herself while listening to her inner voice. This process has perhaps ignited Valentina’s vigor for women, just like her, to not just tip toe around their life, but truly question it and understand what we need to stay stimulated, inspired and connected with ourselves. For Valentina, this happens through her Biodanza facilitation training, a system of integration and affective reeducation through music, dance, and human connection. Throughout this systematic approach, Valentina has been able to break the paradigm that vitality means living life to the fullest and instead embodies the perfect balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems.

“Recognizing and valuing your voice requires courage, especially in a world where women’s voices are often overshadowed,” reveals Valentina. “Defend your voice, particularly to yourself, by giving it the space it deserves. We only have one life. The present moment is the time to explore yourself, recognize what limits you, and work on these limitations to achieve your dreams. That is authenticity.”

Valentina believes that through practicing self-love and asking questions to promote self-awareness is the guiding light to discovering your authentic voice. The journey to seek out your own voice is strengthened by the self-confidence and power you gain along the way, which allows you to recognize the path that leads to your dreams.

“I’ve learned that at my core, I am bold, determined, and somewhat romantic by always fighting for my dreams,” says Valentina. “The more we immerse ourselves in self-discovery, the stronger we become collectively to create a world where women’s voices are heard, respected and celebrated.”

What would happen if we all lived in the fullness of our purpose? Medical Interpreter and entrepreneur, Eurizandra Pinto, does just that, and inspires others to do the same. Growing up in Cape Verde, Eurizandra’s life has been full of transformative experiences, from her journey to the United States in 2005 to becoming a healthcare advocate for those who need it most in her home country. From an early age, Eurizandra has been instilled with a deep sense of community and desire to help others and has made it her life’s mission to empower all those around her.

“I learned how to help others from my grandparents, especially my mother and grandmother. They were both women of impact in the community,” says Eurizandra.

Coming from a long line of entrepreneurs, Eurizandra attributes most of her life lessons to her mother, who raised five successful kids while working full time, studying and running a business. Not only has Eurizandra’s mother taught her to be a hard worker, but she’s inspired her through her actions to be the best friend, daughter and all-around human being that she can possibly be. Eurizandra used the drive her family instilled in her to graduate with her Master’s degree and like all young adults entering the real world, she questioned what was next for her.

“Once you fulfill your basic needs, then you go to the next level, and then it’s about fulfillment, about spirituality,” explains Eurizandra.

This desire for fulfillment led Eurizandra on a quest to explore her spirituality. Thus, began her travels through Brazil, Mexico, the Amazon, Miami and Boston in search of wisdom while connecting with different types of cultures and practices. Eurizandra had the opportunity to attend various church services where she eventually ended her quest through finding Jesus and something much greater, her peace. Her spiritual grounding would become a vital part of her healing and resilience when obstacles started coming her way much later.

“I not only found my peace, but also my identity,” Eurizandra reveals. “I would question myself on how we can position ourselves to succeed despite all the obstacles we face. That’s how I strengthened myself and now, hopefully others.”

Eurizandra has never been a stranger to helping others. Her career as a co-founder of a non-profit organization that leads medical missions has led her back to her home country of Cape Verde to train local physicians on best practices with medical supplies while performing the local citizens with less invasive procedures.

“Healthcare access is a multifaceted issue, encompassing both physical and mental health. This belief drives our comprehensive efforts during our medical missions,” explains Eurizandra.

Eurizandra (far right) is seen on site during a medical mission trip to Cape Verde

Eurizandra’s medical efforts have yielded significant results. Not only has she seen substantial improvements in hospital operations and physician collaborations, but she’s even had the opportunity to host Cape Verdean physicians in the United States to train alongside their counterparts at Harvard-affiliated hospitals. Eurizandra’s overall goal is to ensure sustainability of her, and her team’s, medical efforts by training local physicians and donating advanced medical equipment. Eurizandra’s sense of community is still not lost doing this work as her team not only consists of physicians and nurses, but also their relatives who assist in sorting medical equipment and managing inventory.

Coming up on her 21st medical mission, Eurizandra’s passion for healthcare access doesn’t just stop at her annual trips to Cape Verde. Eurizandra’s non-profit organization, Project Health CV, who she co-founded with other interpreters and friends, focuses on sustainable healthcare solutions, an initiative she hopes that may inspire the next generations.

“Empowerment is a recurring theme in my life, not only in healthcare but also in personal growth,” says Eurizandra. “My journey as an immigrant and young mother in the United States was filled with challenges but my faith has kept me strong.”

Eurizandra realized she can catapult her desire for empowerment, specifically with women, through a new endeavor, starting her own business. Eurizandra took her life’s savings and bet on herself. With her sight’s set on Turkey, Eurizandra started her own boutique, Nurit Studio, a clothing brand offering elegant styles while igniting the fire within every woman and inspiring transformative change, still taking her faith with her every chance she gets.

“When the hand of God is upon your life and you make bold moves in obedience, you get rewarded,” says Eurizandra. “Now, in less than a year, we have two locations. I strongly believe that by empowering women to make a decision to be bold you can eventually fulfill God’s purpose in your life.”

Part of Eurizandra’s purpose is to support Women physically, mentally and emotionally. By championing diversity, and fostering inclusivity, Eurizandra believes in the power of building a community network for collaboration and cultivation of tribes to uplift generations of women to come.

“I challenge women to let go of the stereotypes placed upon them, pursue their dreams fearlessly and lead with confidence and elegance feminized in boldness,” says Eurizandra.

By giving so much of herself, Eurizandra grounds herself through her spirituality and self-care. She truly believes in the art of empowering herself, so that she can continue to empower others. With a daily routine of prayer, meditation, exercise and continuous learning through books and podcasts, Eurizandra believes that true health encompasses a holistic approach, including mental well-being, physical health, and spiritual growth.

“Today, I lead a life of intentionality and balance,” Eurizandra proclaims. “Empowerment is not just a personal journey but a collective one.”

Who could you be if you knew there were no bounds to your greatness or limits on your passion? In a world where professional success often demands a singular focus, the journey of Ta’Neile Faye Simmons stands out as a testament to the power of versatility and determination. As a data scientist, veteran disability resource awareness advocate, and model, Ta’Neile reveals to The Bold Maven how she’s seamlessly navigated diverse realms, each presenting unique challenges and opportunities. Her story is one of passion, perseverance, and the unwavering commitment to inspire others while embodying her best self, especially with other young Black women following in her footsteps.

Photographer: Carlos Velez Studios

Balancing multiple passions is no easy feat, especially when they span different industries. Ta’Neile’s day typically starts around 4:30 AM with an invigorating gym session before transitioning to her nine-to-five corporate role. Post-work hours and weekends are dedicated to her modeling career, mentorship activities, and highly anticipated debut as a Miss Georgia USA contestant.

“My all-time dream is to become a top model and fashion merchant,” reveals Ta’Neile. “That’s the real purpose behind having all of these facets. They all intertwine because they’re all a part of the fashion industry.”

Entering the corporate world as a Black woman initially confused Ta’Neile due to a lack of role models and diversity within the space. Her mother gave her sound advice to maintain healthy professional boundaries due to the competitive nature of the environment and uncertainty of the intentions of those she works with, advice that some of us know all too well in spaces where we’re the minority.

While Ta’Neile’s resilience has kept her grounded and fortified throughout her journey through the corporate landscape, it’s perhaps her lack of formal guidance that has ignited her desire to mentor other young Black girls who hope to follow in her footsteps, whether it’s in data science or modeling. Mentorship has become a pivotal role in Ta’Neile’s life as a mentor and a mentee. Although mentorship wasn’t an option to guide her along her path, her service as a mentor has afforded her the opportunity to learn invaluable skills, specifically with modeling.

Photographer: Carlos Velez Studios

“I learned a lot of the skills I know now from teaching other people first,” says Ta’Neile. “I’ve learned so much from many different people in modeling and my professional career. That teaching others helps me learn.”

As much as Ta’Neile’s mentorship is a source of relentless motivation for her collective of young mentees, she’s an even bigger inspiration to herself. Following her dreams further proves to Ta’Neile just how many barriers she can break by diving deep into her passions, one of which is pageantry. Although Ta’Neile’s foray into pageantry is a recent development, it’s the amplification of her voice and platform that she hopes to use as a springboard for her modeling career. While competing, she aims to demonstrate her beauty, intelligence, compassion, and philanthropy.

“Pageantry is about showcasing the good in people and making being good to others popular,” reveals Ta’Neile. “I’ve realized it’s not just beautiful women parading on stage. These are very highly intelligent women advocating for something they care about.”

Ta’Neile’s pageant experience is a deeply personal cause as she is dedicated to spreading awareness about veteran disability resources, sparked by her father’s struggle and untimely death due to service-related injuries. Ta’Neile fights to ensure veterans receive their benefits without enduring a prolonged and arduous approval process. As she honors her father’s legacy through advocacy, she lays the foundation for her own.

“I’m not going to die with clothes, shoes, or a house. I will die with the legacy and impression I have put on the people behind me,” uncovers Ta’Neile.

For Ta’Neile, family is the core of her motivation. As a first-generation college graduate and a trailblazer in her family, Ta’Neile strives to be the living embodiment of excellence to her younger relatives. From her brother’s admiration to her cousin following in her educational footsteps, Ta’Neile is often reminded how much her example has profoundly impacted those around her. She’s found a sweet balance between her commitments and the many facets of her life, which she attributes simply to her faith and disciplined lifestyle to keep her grounded.

“Spending time with God is how I stay balanced,” affirms Ta’Neile. By practicing fasting and prayer, she continues to draw strength and clarity from her spiritual journey to help her navigate her vision.

Ta’Neile’s multifaceted journey is a beacon of fortitude and an encouraging reminder to all multi-passionate people everywhere that there is balance in having diverse ambitions. Ta’Neile also debunks the myth that we all have to have a singular focus to have a clear vision. It’s possible to excel in multiple domains while making a meaningful impact on the lives of others. As Ta’Neile continues to uplift the next generation of change-makers, she demonstrates unwavering devotion to herself. Now, her only challenge is to build a powerhouse team to get her across the finish line as the next Miss Georgia USA!

The role of a mother can be characterized in a multitude of ways. A nurturer. A teacher. A role model. Each mother’s journey is different and lends to their experience with their children. For Dr. Barbara Joy Jones-Parks, motherhood has been the ride of a lifetime as she balances being the owner of a private medical practice, wife and mother of twins, Jillian & Lewis II.

The adventure of motherhood is a deeply personal experience of devotion, culture and resilience. Dr. Jones shares with The Bold Maven™ the highs and lows of her passage through motherhood thus far to one-year old twins with the help and guidance of her mother; a beautiful quirky Asian lady who rose from very humble beginnings to nurture four children into adulthood. Butong Sing Sa Nun, affectionately known as “Momma Joy” was thrust into a maternal role out of necessity.

Orphaned at the age of seven, after her mother passed away from an asthma attack because they didn’t have access to a hospital in rural Thailand, Momma Joy moved in with her aunt and baby cousin. While her Aunt was at work, she was responsible for the baby and other domestic responsibilities, thus developing her maternal instincts. These instincts gave Momma Joy her first official motherhood experience and laid the foundation for what was to come with raising her own children, and grandchildren, in the future.

Photograph courtesy of Noor Ul Hannan, @noorinthestu

“I’ve learned so much from her,” Dr. Jones reveals. “She slept on a dirt floor during her adolescence, was only able to progress through the second grade and none of this held her back. She is not a victim of circumstance. She has high self esteem and is the master of her ship. She raised me and is a crucial part of my success. Now that I am a mother myself, it further magnifies how incredible she is.”

Through Momma Joy’s resourcefulness, Dr. Jones has learned many lessons from her mother, including the true essence of what children really need to thrive. “Babies just need your love, attention and home made meals. Even though I’m a physician with a terminal degree, they couldn’t care less,” explains Dr. Jones.

Becoming a mother has marked a transformative chapter in Dr. Jones’ life; one filled with both joy and challenges. While her babies have been her biggest blessing, her experience with infertility in addition to a geriatric high-risk pregnancy, opened her eyes even more to the complexities of maternal health. Her experience truly put into perspective the nuances of navigating maternal healthcare as both a patient and physician.

Carrying twins is already a challenge within itself, from being put on bed rest at 28 weeks, to delivering early via c-section at 34 weeks due to preeclampsia, it was the advocation for herself that Dr. Jones found to be the most impactful from her birthing experience. As a physician herself, she found that nothing compares to a patient’s own intuition. As a Woman of Color, she encourages expectant mothers to speak up for themselves when they find they aren’t being heard or something feels off.

“I’m a whole doctor and there were still things that happened during my experience,” Dr. Jones reveals. “I can actually advocate for myself with confidence. But I thought about how many non-medical people have no clue and they think that what is happening to them is what has to happen. No. Ask for clarity. Have a support person with you.”

Photograph courtesy of Noor Ul Hannan, @noorinthestu

Leaving a hospital-employed physician job, to now owning her own practice has been a game-changer, offering the flexibility to prioritize her role as a mother. “Private practice helped me become a mother and helps me stay a good mother,” she acknowledges, underscoring the importance of work-life balance in her journey. Being available for her doctor’s appointments during IVF and pregnancy while having an avenue to provide for her family satisfies her desire to ensure her twins have everything they need to become superb human beings. Dr. Jones’ work even gives her the opportunity to become more than just a rockstar physician, but an established business woman; quite a different experience from Momma Joy.

“One of the biggest differences between my mother and me, is that she was a stay-at-home mother while my father financially provided. She was able to be a magnificent homemaker and really invest in that,” states Dr. Jones. “I’m a professional woman and a mother.” Dr. Jones admits that because she allows herself to be fully immersed in her career while she is at work, she is able to be more present and intentional with her family when she gets home.

“America has it wrong when it comes to motherhood and maternity leave. Corporate America considerers pregnancy to be a burden. Women go through nine months of pregnancy, give birth and then come back to work in three months with minimal support; like their baby isn’t still waking up every night, like they aren’t still breastfeeding and pumping, like their bodies aren’t still full of hormones,” says Dr. Jones. “I even found myself exhausted, with no patience, tearful and overwhelmed when I returned from maternity leave. While I have excellent support, I can’t even imagine the average American woman with minimal support, going to work everyday after a night of no sleep.”

The hormonal changes, combined with lack of sleep and heightened levels of anxiety from being a first time mom takes its toll, however Dr. Jones is fortunate enough to find support and solace in Momma Joy’s additional role as the twins’ nanny. This luxury affords Dr. Jones the opportunity to still be able to tap into her true self; not Mom, not wife, but simply Barbara Joy.

“I’m really proud of my daughter. I don’t know how she does it all, taking care of the babies while working hard in her career,” says Momma Joy. “I always tell her that anything she needs, 100% I’ll be there to help her in any way I can.  I love all my children, I tell them that I love them often!”

Dr. Jones’ approach to motherhood is grounded in lessons from Momma Joy; such as a commitment to holistic health and wellness, an interest birthed from survival by foraging in the woods of Thailand when she was just a little girl. From breastfeeding to preparing fresh, organic meals, Dr. Jones illuminates her dedication to laying a foundation for her children’s future.

In the tapestry of motherhood, Dr. Jones’ story shines as a testament to the power of resilience, the beauty of cultural heritage, and the transformative journey of nurturing life.

In the bustling world of culinary arts, success is often measured not just by talent, but by resilience, determination, and even a dash of luck. La’Kendra Soublet, Head of Culinary Operations at the Thompson Atlanta Buckhead hotel, shares her remarkable journey from humble beginnings to overseeing prestigious hotel dining experiences. While success as a culinary chef isn’t always as it seems, in this exclusive interview with The Bold Maven™, we pull the curtain back to dining rooms and step into the kitchen.

“As head of culinary operations, I oversee anything and everything food-related that comes out of the kitchen. So, whatever dining experience you’re having, whether it’s good or bad, comes to me,” La’Kendra explains, her passion evident in every word. From rooftop operations to crafting menus for special events, she’s a driving force behind the culinary excellence that graces the hotel each and every day.

But La’Kendra’s ascent wasn’t without its challenges. “Truthfully, when you first graduate from culinary school, they paint this picture of immediate success,” she reflects. “But that’s not reality. You start from the bottom, and you work your way up.”

Photograph courtesy of Noor Ul Hannan, @noorinthestu

For many, culinary pursuits begin with a dream, a vision of creating something extraordinary. These aspirations aren’t merely fleeting desires; they represent a journey marked by resilience and determination.

Starting from the bottom, La’Kendra’s vision was clear from the start. Like her peers, she dreamed of becoming an Executive Chef at a top-rated restaurant, or even owning her own place. By trusting in her own journey, La’Kendra’s been able to rise above and swiftly move upward through the ranks until her path led her to the hospitality industry, where she found a home in hotels where she enjoys countless benefits and stability that she truly values.

“I chose hotels because they offered benefits, structure, and opportunities for growth,” La’Kendra explains. “It aligned with what I valued, and I stuck with it…and there’s still room for me to grow!”

Yet, even in her proudest moments, La’Kendra acknowledges the uphill battle faced by Women of Color in the culinary world. She admits that people who look like her are not always welcomed in this industry with open arms, which is another testament to La’Kendra’s drive and determination to succeed.

“You don’t see people that look like me in these spaces,” La’Kendra admits. “But I’m proud to be part of a brand like Hyatt, which prioritizes diversity and inclusivity.” La’Kendra proves that alignment with the right organization and guided by the right leadership, anything is possible.

La’Kendra recounts how impactful it has been working in a hotel that has a Black General Manager, something she’s never seen before. Working for a brand that has a minority and diversity foundation, makes all the difference in her experience as a Black woman in the culinary space, paving the way for future young Black chefs.

“I’ve never worked in a hotel brand that pushed [diversity] and was serious about it versus trying to meet a percentage. I’m proud to know that’s something that they stand on,” says La’Kendra.

The lack of diversity of women and Black people overall being in the Executive Chef position in corporate culinary operations is nothing new. This is one element of La’Kendra’s journey she has had to face head on, even when her expertise far outweighs that of the competition.

“The thing about it that is so tough is that someone can be less talented, less knowledgeable and less qualified than you, and they will still bypass you if you don’t fit the look,” says La’Kendra.

Photograph courtesy of Noor Ul Hannan, @noorinthestu

Navigating through a predominantly male industry, La’Kendra has learned valuable lessons along the way such as removing her feelings when it comes to being in leadership. In corporate settings, it’s important to learn how to have hard conversations about the performance of others when moving up in management. Not only does it enhance leadership, but it instills valuable decision-making skills.

Another great challenge that has loomed over the hospitality industry was a remnant of life during Covid and its impact on the service and hospitality industry as a whole. “People don’t understand how hard this industry really is,” advises La’Kendra. “When Covid hit and restaurants had to close their doors permanently, people that worked off tips weren’t making any money.”

La’Kendra stresses at how tense it was for those in service to be out of work for an entire year. The combination of being under the heat lamps and burning stoves mixed with employment pressures, long work hours and short breaks can have a negative trickle effect on the morale of the entire team, from service staff all the way to the cooks in the kitchen, evidence that maintaining the passion behind culinary arts is vital.

The culinary world is notorious for its high-pressure environments, where stress lurks around every corner. La’Kendra emphasizes the importance of maintaining a level of balance, even though she’s admitted to struggling to achieve it at times. Through therapy, exercise, and moments of relaxation, she finds solace amidst the chaos. It’s a reminder that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity in demanding professions such as this one.

“I go to the gym three times a week to try to use that as a therapeutic notion, reveals La’Kendra. “You still also have to try to have fun, regardless of how much you work. But I give my therapist a whole lot of credit. She helps me a lot.”

Photograph courtesy of Noor Ul Hannan, @noorinthestu

From grueling hours to physical demands, the realities often diverge from public perception, however through it all, the end result is what truly matters. Hospitality professionals aren’t merely serving meals; they’re orchestrating experiences.

“Food brings people together. The food in front of you can change your whole day. I want to be part of something that makes people feel good, says La’Kendra.

As La’Kendra continues to climb the culinary ladder, she remains committed to her craft and the pursuit of excellence by continuing to create lasting memories for her guests. Not only is she able to stay inspired by her great love for the industry, La’Kendra is able to transfer her culinary magic to her repeat guests, thus becoming a go-to person for a great dining experience.

One of La’Kendra’s favorite quotes, attributed to Ayn Rand, encapsulates her overall outlook on life: “The question isn’t who is going to let me, it’s who is going to stop me?” It’s a mantra that underscores her unwavering resolve and refusal to let obstacles hinder her path.

From waitress to culinary visionary, La’Kendra Soublet’s journey embodies the resilience and determination required to thrive in the culinary world. As she continues to break barriers and inspire others, her story serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and passion in living out one’s dreams.

In case you didn’t know, the month of March is deemed as Women’s History Month, an essential time to reflect on the remarkable achievements of women from all diverse backgrounds who have left a mark on history and beyond.

While Women’s History Month is all about honoring women of the past, it’s important that we also look ahead at the next generation of trailblazing women who are setting their sights on making a great impact within their communities, industries, and even within their own legacies.

This month, The Bold Maven™ is honoring all women by shining an exclusive spotlight on two diverse and dynamic women representing greatness. Our March women of honor include:

  • Zulma Milena Sanchez Zuluaga, a Colombian Digital Marketing Strategist
  • Jada Emodogo, a Nigerian-American Senior Undergraduate Physics Student at Jackson State University

While their paths and backgrounds are different, get to know these two women and just how aligned they are in representing all women.

Jada Emodogo

The Journey To Greatness

One of the elements that aligns women of all walks of life is the drive to achieve and overcome. Women can often be the backbone of their families and can serve as pillars within society.

“My journey to where I am today began at the young age of 8, when I witnessed my grandmother’s struggle with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, igniting a deep-seated curiosity about the brain and mental health,” says Jada, who is relentless in her pursuit of knowledge and commitment to the world of mental health and neuroscience. From this early experience, Jada streamlined her focus on becoming a physician-scientist with a specific dedication to unraveling the molecular mechanisms of psychiatric disorders. Jada proves her resilience by pushing past obstacles and turning these struggles into opportunities for growth and change.

For others, the journey to greatness isn’t about witnessing struggles, but more so a reflection of those who traveled the path before us. Much like Jada, Zulma Zuluaga is another woman who can relate to having her family be her motivation to achieve great things.

“The woman who has had the greatest impact on me is my mother, because she is the calmest, happiest, and most optimistic person I know, reveals Zulma. “In these times, finding someone with those qualities is not easy.”

The impact of Zulma’s mother has allowed her to found her own advertising agency, Creativos Marketing y Publicidad LLC, where she works to help people scale their businesses through marketing and advertising.

A Woman’s Impact

As recalled throughout history, women have remained the true cornerstones of society, yet had to fight persistently for basic rights to vote, work, get educated, and many more. With so many discrepancies against women, it begs the question: how does being a woman actually contribute to success and advancement?

Zulma Zuluaga

For Digital Marketer, Zulma, her experience around women has been largely positive and has laid the foundation for what sisterhood and friendship are to her and how it’s aided in her overall self-confidence and personal development. This has led her to a life of personal and professional fulfillment.

“I had the opportunity to study at an all-girls school, where my experience was extremely positive. Despite the distance, I still maintain friendships that I greatly value. The message of sisterhood was reflected in our group of friends, which strengthened our bonds and provided invaluable support,” says Zulma.

Unlike Zulma, a Physics Student, Jada’s Nigerian descent is what has motivated her to debunk stereotypes against women by pledging her sorority, obtaining leadership roles, and continuing to pave the way for other women in STEM. Through her chance encounter with Dr. Lollie Michelle, Louisiana State University’s first Black woman Department of Physics and Astronomy Ph.D. graduate, was Jada able to truly see in action what was possible in the world of physics, which has ultimately led her to support and guide female students across STEM departments.

“This experience underscores the significance of sisterhood and the value of surrounding yourself with women who occupy the positions you aspire to be in, ” says Jada.

Whether through all-female environments that instill female empowerment, or through unwavering self-belief, these three ladies understand that a woman’s impact is immeasurable.

Lasting Legacies

As we celebrate modern women who are still making their marks on this world, how do we ignite the passion in the generations to come?

Zulma desires to leave a legacy that is full of passion, perseverance, and determination. Zulma believes that with enough confidence and planning, we can all take necessary actions to create great things.

“My goal is to leave a legacy of strength, resilience, and personal fulfillment, showing that with optimism, dedication, and a clear vision of the future, you can overcome any adversity and achieve success in any area of life,” says Zulma. She hopes that her example can be one of many young women can follow to stay inspired, take risks, uplift others and never underestimate their power as a woman and beyond.

Zulma Milena Sanchez Zuluaga

“My advice to the next generation of women would be to invest in yourselves, for your growth and self-development are priceless resources that will serve as the foundation of your success,” reveals Jada, who finds that every experience is an opportunity for advancement.

Jada wants all young women to know it’s the hard roads ahead that allow us the opportunity to live life to our fullest potential and find out what we’re truly made of. Taking risks and understanding your self-worth is what gives us the confidence to find our inner patience, drive, and conviction within ourselves to make the biggest impact on the world around us.

“Womanhood is a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance, and I would encourage my younger self to treasure every moment, because it is only through the highs and lows that we truly find ourselves” highlights Jada.

While these two women take very different perspectives on self-discovery within their distinctive journeys, what remains the same is their overall message of resiliency, self-confidence and female pride. Women are multi-faceted beings that holistically relate on an inexplicable level. Together we fight, we play, we experience, but more importantly, we live on our own terms.
