Palestinian-Jordanian artist Zeyne unveils her powerful new single, “Hilwa,” a soul-stirring anthem of self-love, generational strength, and cultural pride. Released via MDLBEAST Records in partnership with her own imprint, Scarab Records, the track cements Zeyne’s role as one of the most innovative and important voices in the Arab music scene today.
Following the success of her 2024 hit “Asli Ana,” Zeyne continues to blend traditional Middle Eastern sounds with modern R&B and soul, creating a soundscape that is at once intimate and defiant. “Hilwa” — which means beautiful in Arabic — honours the beauty of one’s roots, the women who shape us, and the power of embracing one’s authentic self.
“Growing up, my mom and grandmother would always tell me the phrases ‘hilwa hilwa’, ‘ma 3alaiki kilmeh’, ‘qaliban wa qalban’ which mean, ‘you’re beautiful, no words can say otherwise, inside and out,’” Zeyne exclusively tells Vogue Arabia. “I didn’t realise they had become inherent affirmations until I truly internalised them. So, Hilwa is built on those phrases, on that memory, and that kind of love. For that, I’m so grateful to them.”
At its core, “Hilwa” is an ode to the inner and inherited strength of Arab women. Anchored by the refrain, “You’re so beautiful and no one can say otherwise,” the song radiates both vulnerability and power. Through poignant lyrics and rich sonic layers, Zeyne pays tribute to her mother and grandmother, whose love and wisdom helped shape her identity.
