They’re adorning hairstyles, belting blazers, decorating stilettos and sparkling on diamond necklaces. Bows have been bestowed upon us in abundance this season, imbued with youth, but all grown up. Nowhere was this more evident than on the autumn/winter 2025 runways, where bows were spotted on both decadent, period-inspired get-ups and sleek, contemporary silhouettes. For Alessandro Michele’s Valentino show, bows were a vital part of the designer’s eclectic aesthetic on the runway – the prim motif dotted low lace necklines and completed colourful peplum belts. At Simone Rocha, lace-up bows created romantic, corset-inspired panels in dresses. But bows need not be embedded in the design of a garment; they can also be a chic afterthought, à la Givenchy, where a structured black bow cinched the waist of a lemon-yellow coat.

Prior to Matthieu Blazy taking over the reins as artistic director, Chanel’s in-house creative studio reimagined the design code once cherished by Gabrielle Chanel in numerous looks for autumn/winter 2025. In accessories, bows enlivened boots and were tied haphazardly on the handles of bags. One black puffer jacket was boldly enhanced by rows of velvet ribbons tied in neat bows; the same technique adorned a tiered white dress, this time exuding angelic elegance. Appealing to younger Chanel clients, a navy jumper featured a bow-shaped cutout just below the neckline, while a mint-hued knit dress was topped with an oversized knit bow – a cute and kitschy tribute to Coco’s timeless motif. One look incorporated a sheer black layer topped with a bow at the collar, flirting with contemporary ideas of coverage and exposure.
