In true Spice Girl fashion, British singer and author Geri Halliwell-Horner knows there’s no better place to find talent than on homegrown soil, especially when it comes to choosing actors to play her in a biopic of her life.
‘I would go for Florence Pugh and Emily Blunt. [For] the different stages in my life. They’re both gorgeous, they have huge hearts – they’re real,’ she told ELLE UK during a recent game of Ask Me Anything. ‘Wow, that would be a privilege and honour if those two amazing women played me.’
Celebrating women with heart has long been of great importance to ‘Ginger Spice’, ever since she was thrown into the spotlight with the English pop group, The Spice Girls, in 1994. Now, the ‘It’s Raining Men’ singer is injecting some much-welcomed girl power into her new novel, Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen. The book explores protagonist Rosie Frost’s journey at a mysterious school on an island, and touches on the author’s love of British history, nature, and adventure.
‘It’s about an ordinary hero finding the courage she never knew she had. The reason I decided to write Rosie is because I feel like the world does need a new hero, one that is not perfect. It’s about finding her power, and through her we find ours,’ Halliwell-Horner, explained, noting that her best writing tip is to write in a dark room, à la Stephen King.
Reflecting on her near three-decade long career, the author revealed that if she could give herself another Spice name, she’d choose Golden Spice. ‘I feel like this is a new chapter in my life, it feel timeless. It feels good. It feels gold.’
