Amit Aggarwal Talks About His New Store In Delhi And Dressing Priyanka For NMACC

A few minutes into the conversation and one instantly knows they’re in the company of an extraordinary mind. That’s precisely the impression that couturier Amit Aggarwal exudes. Not that he needs this reiteration, but the beloved designer has made an indelible (and atypical, just like his silhouettes) mark in the Indian fashion industry. And it’s been 10 years since!

With his third store in Delhi’s DLF Emporio, which he describes as a meditative void, and a vision to celebrate the individuality of each wearer through their uniquely artistic pieces, Amit Aggarwal, in an exclusive chat with iDiva, makes us privy to all the mystiques of his mind and creations. Excerpts:

iDiva: It’s been 10 years since Amit Aggarwal, the couture label, came into being. What’s been the biggest highlight of your work so far?

AA: In the past 10 years, there have been multiple highs and various lows like anything else in life. However, my most prized highlight has been creating the Amit Aggarwal family and growing with each one of them. Building relationships, understanding the depth of one another and sailing along towards the same dream.

In the past 10 years, we have moulded the brand with our collective passion and created the most precious memories. iDiva: Your designs have a new address at DLF Emporio, Delhi, and its opening was quite a spectacle against an all-black interior. Would it be right to say what pink is to Valentino, black is to Amit Aggarwal? 

AA: I have always had a special affair with black and metal, and this store is a physical manifestation of that. To me, black is reflective of infinity, where nothing limits you and your own imagination defines your path. I wanted people to go on a journey when they entered space, similar to being in a meditative void.
