Beyoncé’s Mom Tina Knowles Called out Ignorant Comments About Her Daughter’s Skin Color

As we noted, Beyoncé went Targaryen blonde for the premiere of her Renaissance film, a light hair shade that could also be called platinum or even silver, depending on how it’s captured by photographs. And Tina Knowles, the superstar’s mother, has taken to Instagram to point out that this hair, combined with a reflective outfit, are what made her daughter’s skin appear slightly lighter—not an attempt to use skin bleach or makeup to “appear white.”

On Instagram, Knowles shared a fan-made montage she found (original source unknown) that juxtaposes comments about Beyoncé’s premiere appearance with clips of her over the years set to her song “Brown Skin Girl,” essentially showing that the singer has always had light brown skin and has never shied away from claiming her Blackness.

Knowles captioned the video with an impassioned message to those who would ignorantly comment on her daughter’s appearance, writing, “She does a film, called the renaissance, where the whole theme is silver with silver hair, a silver carpet, and suggested silver attire and you bozos decide that she’s trying to be a white woman and is bleaching her skin? .. How sad is it that some of her own people continue the stupid narrative with hate and jealousy. Duh, she wore silver hair to match her silver dress as a fashion statement…What’s really most disappointing is…Black people…on social media. Lying and faking and acting like you’re so ignorant that you don’t understand That black women have worn platinum hair since the Etta James days. I just went and looked at all the beautiful talented black celebrities who have worn platinum hair and it has been just about everyone of them at one time or another. Are they all trying to be white?
