Every now and then, a particular silhouette becomes widely popular among style stars in the region. This time around, it appears to be the demure yet dramatic figure-hugging full-length gown.

It first received the stamp of approval from Karen Wazen, who attended the inaugural edition of Riyadh Fashion Week last month in a dress by Yousef Akbar. The Saudi designer and 2020 Vogue Fashion Prize finalist is known for this very signature, which has also come to be loved by Alicia Keys, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Sharon Stone. In Riyadh, the Lebanese entrepreneur’s pick from Akbar’s namesake brand came in a timeless black color, with glove sleeves, a sweeping train, and two golden brooch details on the top.

Given that the dress has its wearer pretty much covered in terms of jewelry, Wazen completed the look with a delicate ring and earrings, and a black and gold clutch as her arm candy. The dress was also favored by Egyptian actor Yasmine Sabri, whose stylist Youmna Moustafa took a slightly different approach to accessorizing the look. To attend an event during Riyadh Season late last month, Sabri was spotted wearing the dress with a yellow Lady Dior handbag.

Wazen has also made the silhouette her own as of late, having opted for it on multiple occasions this year. For the BoF 500 Gala in Paris, she wore a similar dress in a muted mint green by Lebanese designer Harith Hashim’s Harithand, and another by Max Mara to the brand’s show during Milan Fashion Week.

Whether you are looking to emulate Wazen’s style this season, or on the hunt for a new statement dress, consider investing in clingy, full-length eveningwear.
